Watermelon inside a watermeloooooon

Eyop those of the internet!
Today I had the super anti-climax you get when you get home and the parcel you were waiting for isn't there. But then I discovered that actually, it had arrived, but my dog had stolen the package and taken it outside in the rain! Bloody idiot. Luckily it had plastic packaging so no damage was done.

I saw this watermelon crochet bralet thing on some model's Instagram. She wore it to Coachella and I fell deeply in love. So I desperately searched the internet in hope of finding one for myself, only to discover that to get my true love I was going to have to pay £50. Nah. Not happening.

But then I discovered the wonders and joys of Etsy. If you don't know what it is, it's a sight sort of like eBay, but where people sell their arty crafty home made things. I found the exact same bralet, but for around £15. And it's lovely! I can tell that time and talent has gone into this beauty, and it's fabulous quality means that it will last for a long, long time.

I'm gonna team it with some cute high waisted shorts for Glastonbury, which is coming up very soon. I can't wait!


Half way through my exams now, so when I have more time I am going to put some real time into this blog.

It's been a while...

Indeed it has been a long while since my last blog post, I have just been so busy with... Well, life!

I have been lucky enough to have met my beautiful baby cousin, Ines, while I haven't been blogging. She is absolutely adorable and I have never felt the connection that I have with her before. I love her so much, but feel like I have a huge responsibility!

eBay has unfortunately been taking up an unfortunately quite significant amount of my time recently. I thought it would be a good idea to download the eBay app - and my God, don't do it! I am constantly flicking through and finding things that are going for 99p. So I bid and I win them for a quid or something, but of course there's the postage and packaging that adds on a few more pounds. And if you're like me (who bought 8 things in a day off eBay), your bank account will have a heart attack. So don't download it, for your own sake.

It's that time of year again - exam period. I am working really hard as I really want to do well in these exams. Hopefully it will pay off. Last year I think I over worked myself, and I got very stressed. So this year I started revising much earlier, to try and make myself feel more confident (which I do). I am also trying to keep myself busy in the evenings. I am about to start watching Breaking Bad properly, which I am looking forward to. Baking is also taking over my evenings. I made these muffins today which are low fat and scrummy...

It's super sunny in London at the moment, and you can tell because people are actually smiling! It doesn't happen a lot, especially on the tube, but I am enjoying everyone else's happiness.

New York New York!

I am having some serious nostalgia this week. I'm looking through my holiday snaps from NYC and falling in love with it all again.

In October I visited the beautiful city for the first time, and it outdid all my expectations. I was blown away. I stayed in TriBeCa, which had such a brilliant location. It had great train links and the area itself was very cool and laid back, exactly where I want to live when I'm older! 

On day one I wanted to get a feel for the city, and there was no better way than to take a boat ride under Brooklyn Bridge.

It was quite windy but a lovely sunny day. I had planned my outfits for NYC weeks in advance. On the first day I wore my purple tartan skirt from Topshop, my Mango turquoise knit top and biker jacket from Miss Selfridge. I managed to not wear tights but wish I had because it was bloody freezing! I also wore my favourite floppy hat from H&M, which I absolutely adore.

I went to the Rockafeller centre to see the amazing views. It was absolutely breathtaking. I think this was the moment I knew I could never love a city as much as I do New York. Amazing.

Of course I had to get a tourist hat! I love my Nicks hat, and have worn it so much since. There were so many adorable cookie stores all over the city, my favourite one selling these cute lil' NYPD cookies. One of the highlights for me has to be visiting the New York Library. After seeing it in so many movies  it was truly breathtaking - and I wish I could study there! Beats my local library.

Comfy-cool

Hello!

Today I have had a whole day at the library (still here...) so this morning I wanted to wear something comfy yet still cool and chic.

These are my favourite leggings, I got them from TJ Maxx when I was in New York for $4.99! I have never heard of the make before, but they are thick which is great for the freezing weather here in London. I also love the pattern - I'm not quite sure what is it but I get a kind of celtic vibe from it. 

Of course the reason I got them is because of the lush purple colour. It looks slightly different in the two photos but it's a nice dark lilac. I also wore my Supergra's today, which I thought looked good with the purple. Supergra's are so comfortable and also affordable. I got mine last year from TK Maxx for £19.99, and even after wearing them a lot they have lasted which I'm impressed with.

I definitely need some more leggings for the exam period, as they are so much more comfortable than jeans and if you get the right pair can make an easy going but nice outfit.

Mellow Yellow

 eBay is slowly but surely destroying my bank account. I cannot stop bidding! There is so much to be had, I think I have a condition. Obsessive compulsive eBay disorder? That should definitely be a thing.

Last week I bidded on these cheerful spring sandals, costing me only 99p! Of course there were postage and packaging costs but I tried to put them to the back of my mind.

I'm having a bit of a thing for yellow at the moment, because I like to brighten up an outfit. These sandals have only been worn twice so are as good as new, and are super comfy. They go with jeans, skirts or dresses and will look perfect with my Valentine's Day outfit (post coming soon!).

Although they may look flimsy they are actually very supportive on your feet and have not given me any blisters so far. I'm not sure how old they are because they have the old Asos logo, but I am so happy with them.

 I am really looking forward to summer now, with lots planned. I am going to Croatia with my best friends, then Naples with college, then Ibiza with my boyfriend, followed by volunteering in South Africa, and finally going to a wedding in Greece! It is going to be so much fun and hopefully I will have a killer tan by the end of it. I'm going to have to plan so many summer outfits before then...

Glorious Gatsby

After watching Baz Luhrmann's epic The Great Gatsby for the 7th time on the weekend, I am more in love with it than ever. The acting, Leonardo DiCaprio, the soundtrack, Leonardo DiCaprio, and the directing are all marvellous - and did I mention Leonardo DiCaprio?

But one of the greatest things about the film in my opinion is the set and the costumes. They are divine and I adore all of the art deco style that covers Jay Gatsby's house (the ballroom floor is absolutely beautiful!). The costumes however definitely take centre stage, with Carey Mulligan looking flawless with that cute twenties hair do and smothered in sequins.

So when I popped into Miss Selfridge I couldn't resist treating myself to a few twenties treats. I got this dazzling flapper dress, £95 down to £25! I was over the moon. 

It has such beautiful detail and has a lovely weight to it when on. Some of the sequins have fallen off but it's hardly noticeable, so I guess if I really wanted to I could just quickly sew some back on.

I also got this cute little cami top, also from Miss Selfridge, for only £15. The light blue colour doesn't really show well in the photos, but it is another great piece that I can't wait to wear.

I am desperate to go to a 1920's themed party, and now I have the perfect outfit to wear! Maybe for my eighteenth...

Lovely Lemons

This week I went to a car boot sale to see what I could find. I haven't had much luck recently, as everything that has appealed to me hasn't been my size or has too much damage to repair. However, this time I hit the jackpot.

I found this beautiful 1950's Charles Creed matching skirt and jacket, which is in perfect condition and goes so well with my skin tone. Charles Creed was a successful British fashion designer in the 1920's-60's, who's mature style was influenced by the military and male tailoring. I am not sure how much it would have cost originally, but similar items on eBay go for £70. And I got mine for £5! It is a sample piece but you couldn't tell. It's brilliant quality and the lovely light lemon colour is stunning.

Getting your yellows right is tricky, but it is a great spring colour that I think can really brighten up an outfit. It is true that, unfortunately, it doesn't suit everyone. For very pale people, wearing a pale yellow will wash you out so is not a great idea. And bright yellows don't tend to suit blonde people, but there are exceptions. However in most cases there is a yellow tone that is perfect for your skin colour, and it's just a case of trying on different shades to see which one suits you best.

I am so pleased with this purchase, I honestly couldn't be happier. I am going to team the jacket and skirt with an orange top because I love the oranges and lemons look. Just need it to get a bit warmer so I don't have to wear it with tights!

Spring time steals

Whenever I am anywhere near a Zara my instincts guide me there immediately - I cannot get enough of it! Although all the items are generally on the pricey side, I have always managed to find some gems in their sales. And todays trip into my local store did not disappoint.

Zara's clothes are beautiful. They have a eclectic mix of of elegant, quirky, basic and bold styles of clothing, which means that there's a perfect item for everyone.

I have been wanting a pencil skirt for a while now, as I love the classy look they can add to an outfit. This stunning purple and orangey-pink flower number instantly caught my eye, and for only £10 (down from £25!) I could not resist.

I can't wait to wear this skirt out, and the bright colours means that I will definitely be wearing it in the summer time. As you know I love my flower patterns so this is another to add to my collection!

Ranglan shirts are very popular at the moment, and I have been looking for one for ages that's not too expensive. After Phoebe Lettice, star of Made in Chelsea, wore one I have been eager to find one to call my own.

I got this shirt from Primark for £4 and it is exactly what I was looking for. Although Primark generally isn't great quality, the shirt doesn't look too cheap and is thicker than most of the other shirts available in store. I am going to make sure to hand wash it so it lasts longer. 

I am loving sheer material at the moment, and found this gem in the Zara sale for only £1.99!

The sheer shoulders make an outfit look cool and the deep blue colour means that it goes with literally anything. Bargain!

I definitely need to stop spending as I have very little money due to my summer holidays I have planned. Hoping the weather gets better before then...

Floral playsuits

I have always loved playsuits because they are so easy to dress up or down. Team them up with heels and a leather jacket and you've got a perfect party outfit, or match them with a pair of boots and a baggy cardigan for a lovely everyday look. 

Floral prints are 100% in this spring, which I am so happy about because I think they can be worn in so many different ways. I have already treated myself to my first floral purchase of the year (the first of many!), a beautiful playsuit from Topshop.

It's a simple but elegant floral pattern, that has slightly sheer arms. I wore it to a friend's birthday party with my heeled Chelsea boots (see previous post), and it was great because the sheer material meant that I didn't get too hot! I got a few compliments about my outfit which was nice because I don't tend to get many.

The playsuit was originally £50 and was reduced to £30, and I got another £3 off that with student discount. It has a lovely flowy sort of look to it, which I think is very lovely.

There are many other floral playsuits available at the moment, so here are a few of my favourites:

Love the vintage look to this playsuit. It has very pretty spring colours and would be perfect if the weather improved! This is a good choice for paler skin and blondes particularly.

Surf Spray: Budget vs. High End

Hello blogees!

Messy surf/beach hair is a popular look at the moment, with the likes of Blake Lively and Jennifer Aniston wearing it on the red carpet. It is personally my favourite hair look, as it is a laid back look which goes really well with a boho style, and is achieved easily.

I have collected a few different brands of surf spray over the years, and I have two distinct favourites. 

Lee Stafford Beach Babe (Budget)

Price: £7.00

Beach Babe has the lovely smell of all Lee Stafford products, which can still be smelt up to three days later. It can be used on damp or dry hair, but is much more effective on towel dried hair. It suggests on the bottle to spray on hair approximately 50 times, which you should not do! It makes your hair feel and look so dry and sort of sticky. I would suggest spraying up to ten times and no less, because even with this amount your hair will still feel dry. This also seems to make your hair look a little dull, so you might want to use a nourishment shampoo to reduce this.

There doesn't seem to be much liquid in the bottle, as it gets used up very quickly. 

Produces a nice wavy look, not really curls, but it still looks great!

It's a nice looking bottle, but is a bit awkward to take on holiday because it doesn't fit into a wash bag! But for £7.00... Who can complain!

My rating: 7/10

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray(High End)

Price: £21.50

Produces beautiful beach waves which last for up to 4 days. Bumble and Bumble makes your hair feel super soft and adds a shine to it. It doesn't have a noticeable smell, which is a shame but some people like that. Can be used on dry and towel dried hair, and works perfectly in the sun. 

Although it is a fairly small bottle, there seems to be a lot of liquid inside, so it doesn't feel like you have to use it sparingly. It's small size also means that it's perfect to take on holiday with you! 

For the extra money spent, you get guaranteed lovely curls, hair that looks shiny and feels smooth, and a great boho look. That's why Bumble and Bumble gets my blessing!

Rating: 10/10

The great thing about surf hair is that it causes hardly any damage, especially if you let your hair dry naturally. So if you're trying to grow you hair, this is a perfect way to save it from split ends and still look nice.

Topshop steals!

Hello again!

After going into London yesterday, I couldn't help but treating myself to some goodies in the Topshop sale.

As we all know, Topshop has become ridiculously expensive, even with the student discount. Everything is very overpriced, so I only buy things from there when they put on one of their fantastic sales.

Teddy bear coats are quite popular at the moment, with Kim Kardashian and one of my style icons Alexa Chung both wearing them. I was lucky enough to find one of the last teddy fur pea coats (which have a slightly different material than the classic teddy bear coat) for £40 down from £79 yesterday! 

I love the soft material of the coat, it really does feel like a teddy bear. The vibrant blue colour goes with most of my wardrobe, so I will definitely be wearing it non stop. It's also, unlike lots of coats I've previously bought at Topshop, very warm. With this very on and off weather we're having, it's a perfect winter coat that will brighten up your outfit.

The inside is lined with a comfortable silky material, and it's fitted so doesn't look baggy or anything. I love it!

I also treated myself to these cute little Polar Bear socks, which were only a pound! 

The Topshop sale is brilliant for cute little pants and socks, as they get reduced to £3-£1 and they are of a much better quality than the ones sold in Primark for the same price.

So all together I spent £41, but I got another £4.10 off with my student discount. Because the sale is almost coming to an end, lots of items are getting reduced even more, so go and have a look to see what steals you can find!

Chelsea boots!

Hello again pals

So the Chelsea boot is a major hype at the moment, flat or heeled. And I am a huge fan.

The reason I love them so much is that they go with anything: jeans, skirts, shorts, dungarees etc etc. Also, because they are wedged they are comfortable enough to wear everyday. They aren't too good to run in though...

The Vagabond Chelsea boot is of course the ultimate Chelsea boot. However, they are rather expensive  (£79.99 to be precise) for your average, lazy, never-having-any-money sort of person like me.

There is a saviour for us, which is the mini heaven called eBay! I bought this pair of Chelsea boots for £25 and they are absolutely beautiful.

I wore them to Office to compare them with Vagabonds. Vagabonds are of course of a better quality, but not significantly. The boots look exactly the same, and are equally as comfortable to wear. The Vagabonds are more weighted, but really the eBay boots are of a very good quality.

So if you are thinking of investing in a heeled Chelsea boot, get these! They are great for how much they cost, and save you a significant amount of money.

Lil' bit of peplum

Hello there!

First blog post from me. Bit confused as to what's going on but I'll give it a go!

So I've never really been into peplum, mainly because I have quite a straight body and literally no hips so it always looks baggy. But a cheeky sale buy from River Island changed all of that... (suspense).

I got this white peplum top number for £6 (yes, £6!) down from £28 in the River Island Christmas sale. I teamed it up with a gold and black belt (also from River Island) to try and create the illusion that I have hips. 

It was my friends 18th birthday so I decided to wear the top. I wore it with a black body con skirt and tights, with my favourite favourite boots ever (blog post on them coming soon). It resulted in a basic look, which doesn't look too over done or too underdone. Perfect for a night out to the pub!
